Idaho is known for having some of the best ski slopes in the entire Northern Hemisphere. If you’re looking for incredible skiing, without the crowds of Whistler or Tahoe, consider one of these three spots for your next ski vacation. Sun Valley, Schweitzer Mountain Resort, and Grand Targhee boast some of the best skiing in the nation and great snow dumps with their position in the Rocky Mountains.
Whether you’re looking for a luxury or budget experience, or if your whole vacation depends on the amount of ski runs, we have the right mountain vacation for you.
Sun Valley– If you’re looking for a glamorous ski vacation, with luxury resorts and five star dining, consider Sun Valley. The cute town center is easy access from the main resort and offers something for even the non-ski lover to do. Sun Valley is the most expensive of the three resorts, with day passes starting around $80 dollars for an adult. Sun Valley sees around 200 inches of fresh snow every year, making sure the slopes are in perfect condition all ski season.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort– With 2900 skiable acres, Schweitzer, in Northern Idaho, is the top skiable mountain in the state. And with 93 different trails, you are sure to never get bored or tired of these runs. With an average of 300 inches of fresh snow, this gets more average snowfall than Sun Valley, but doesn’t offer the luxury experience of Sun Valley. Schweitzer is also the cheapest of the three mountains, average $65 dollars a day lift tickets.
Grand Targhee– Located on the Montana- Idaho border, Grand Targhee is the least crowded of the three and also fairly reasonable with lift prices around $70 dollars a day. (With 72 runs, it’s about a dollar a run to have an awesome adventure on this mountain!) Another selling point is the easy 45-minute drive from Jackson Hole. To top it all off, Grand Targhee gets an average of 500 inches of fresh powder each year, the amount of Sun Valley and Schweitzer put together!
