Temple of Heaven, Beijing Spend a morning wandering the grounds and buildings of the Temple of Heaven, constructed from 1406 to 1420 under the Yongle Emperor reign, who also built the Forbidden City. The complex includes the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Imperial Vault of Heaven, and the Circular Mound Alter, all of which were visited by emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Each year ceremonies of prayer to Heaven were made to ensure a good harvest for the land. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.
