TBT: Retired people having more fun than you

Here, a group of retired women participate in a water aerobics class in the 1970s (there are no Instagram filters on these photos). Have you ever seen such beautiful swim caps? Have you ever seen such big smiles from people who are working out? They’re having more fun than you.

Two residents of South Beach carry their folding chairs to the beach, circa 1975. These ladies live in South Beach. Do you live in South Beach? No? Me neither.

Members of a tricycle club meet every morning to ride their three-wheelers through the neighborhood. I want that hat! I want that basket! I want that life!

A group of women plays a board game at a Florida retirement community. Forget Words With Friends, these people actually got together with their real friends. How hipster is that pink hair wrap? 

A group of retired men play shuffleboard in Florida. That one guy’s outfit and his pose makes me think his job used to be steering a gondola in Venice, which sounds like a pretty awesome life.

A woman knits and simultaneously works on her tan in this image from the 1970s. This lovely lady was the inspiration for our gallery when we stumbled upon her last week. Can anyone be as relaxed as she looks? Can anyone pull of power clashing—all those bold prints look so good together!—as well as she does?

Members of the cycling club—including Ethel, Kate and Ruby—continue on their morning ride. Now it’s time for us to get back to work, until we too can move to Florida with nothing but a loud swimsuit, a three-wheeler and our friends to occupy our days.
