High in the Canadian Rockies is stunningly pretty Lake Louise, which may well be the most family friendly ski destination there is (their ski daycare accommodates infants from just 18 days old). There’s more to do than just ski though…

The historic Lake Louise Railway Station and Restaurant serves up sophisticated fare for adults but also has a great kids menu. Order yourself a prime AAA Alberta steak, and browse the historic building and artifacts while waiting for your delectable dessert.

The Ski School at Lake Louise offers group and private lessons to help you get up and skiing as soon as possible no matter what your age, or how experienced/ inexperienced you are. There are lots of willing guides and teachers on the mountain.

When you go out with Kingmik Dog Sled Tours in Lake Louise, your experience starts with you meeting their friendly hounds, who love getting petted as they wait excitedly to do their job.

The sled tour is a once-in-a-lifetime thrill, as you glide through the magical snowy forest, pulled by happy yapping dogs, and if you’re lucky the guides may let you drive the sled too.

During the super family friendly Ice Magic Festival (held every January), ice sculptors from all over the world come to create masterpieces in the grounds of the Fairmont Chateux Lake Louise, such as the castle seen here on the lake.

As part of the Ice Magic Festival, there’s a playground made from carved ice that kids love sliding an climbing on (and is big enough for grown-up butts to slide down too).

Wrap up warm and take a sleigh ride around the huge lake with Brewster Adventures. The scenery is just incredible, and you get to see a massive natural ice-climbing wall when you get to the other side.
