Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is place that’s tough to encapsulate in a photo and even harder to describe in words. I spent a long time simply reading and reflecting. This gentleman seemed to be doing the same.
Driving to Red Lodge from Billings, horses were a common sight and these ones in particular called to me for some reason.
Red Lodge is such a fun town and perhaps the most frequent visitors are bikers traversing the scenic roads that dot the American West, making this a common sight on Broadway, the main street.
Huckleberries are everywhere in Montana from pie to jelly to ice cream. I enjoyed these scoops at Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar in Red Lodge after a delicious meal of Thai Lettuce Wraps.
After leaving Red Lodge, the real scenic journey begins and I confess it was hard to keep my eye on the road when the constant sight of wildflowers and mountain peaks made the whole drive seem like something out of Swiss fairy tale.
Rock Creek Vista Point is a great place to stop for a rest and one of the few places for a bathroom break on the Beartooth Highway.
This is just one of the stunning vistas visible when you stop at Rock Creek Vista Point.
Also at Rock Creek Vista Point, chipmunks are so friendly that it’s very common to see visitors feeding them. I’m not sure of the wisdom of that, but it was adorable to watch and easy to understand doing so why people think they’re so cute!
As I got closer to Yellowstone, I loved the changing landscape. Sometimes it was rocky and barren, the next minute fields of lupine clung to the ground around towering pine trees.
