Hollywood’s elite love the outdoor recreation, fine dining, and artwork that define this 2002 Olympic site. It’s no wonder Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival has called Park City home since 1981. If you’re charmed by the likes of Innsbruck, Chamonix, or St. Moritz, you owe it to yourself to check out this mountain paradise.

WHY SHOULD I GO?

Perched amid the spectacular Wasatch Mountains, Park City lies just 36 miles from Salt Lake City, and its three major ski resorts—Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, and The Canyons—make it a true sporting mecca. Celebs pay up to $10 million for luxury second homes here. Don’t be fooled by Utah’s conservative image: the shops, restaurants, and nightclubs along Main Street will satisfy any pleasure-seeker. This funky, charming town of 8,000 has come a long way since the silver mining boom of the 1860’s!

WHERE SHOULD I STAY?

The Caledonian, located at the foot of Main Street, is downtown’s most luxurious rental condo complex with 15 multi-bedroom suites. It sits next to Park City Mountain’s Town Lift for easy ski in/ski out access, and other resorts lie less than 15 minutes away. Gas fireplaces, private hot tubs, spacious dining areas, and king and queen-sized beds complete the opulent atmosphere. After working out in the fitness center, relax with a drink or a bite to eat in the upscale Butcher’s Chop House & Bar.

WHAT CELEBRITIES MIGHT I BUMP INTO?

Especially during Sundance in January, the sky’s the limit. Minnie Driver and Paris Hilton have bought doggie treats at the Love Your Pet Bakery. Pierce Brosnan has checked out the Meyer Gallery, while Kiefer Sutherland has partied at the No-Name Saloon. Kevin Spacey has dined at the Riverhorse Cafe and Ben Affleck has noshed at Zoom. Critically acclaimed European filmmakers like Gabriele Muccino and Euzhan Palcy can also be spotted.

WHAT ARE THE MUST-DO ATTRACTIONS?

Explore Park City’s Olympic heritage. For instance, skiers might meet 1998 Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street carving powder at Park City Mountain. Looking for a truly intense experience? Try bobsledding at the Utah Olympic Park. You’ll travel up to 80 mph with 4 G’s of force in a four-man bob, as you drop the equivalent of 40 stories in less than a minute. The park also features a museum commemorating the 2002 Games. Ziplining, mountain biking, rock climbing, and outdoor concerts are other seasonal highlights. Park City is so diverse that you can start your day with a hot air balloon ride and end with a musical at the Egyptian Theatre.
