Idaho’s restaurant scene serves up everything from fresh fish, organic beef and farm fresh vegetables to locally owned roadside diners and specialty milkshakes. On a road trip around the state, you can taste a little of all those flavors and are sure to gain a pound or two.

Red Fish Lake
After spending most of the day on Red Fish Lake, make your dinner reservation as late as possible. Enjoy a cocktail or a beer by the dock and then walk back towards the dining room. The whole world rustic charm is comfortable and the food is traditional Northwestern style, with flavored meats, smoky fish and great sides.
Sample menu items include Idaho Trout, rack of lamb, fried chicken, pork chops and BBQ pork ribs.
My Father's Place, McCall
Three blocks from the lake shore in McCall, My Father’s Place is a road side eatery famous for their burgers and milkshakes. If you want a view of the lake, you can sit outside on their patio seats or inside in the cool air. All of the staff are super friendly and can help direct you to different spots around the lake.
Outdoor Dining in McCall
If you want to literally feel the wind off the lake, consider McCall’s most famous outdoor dining establishment, Lake Grill at Shore Lodge. With signature champagne cocktails, a prestigious wine list and sophisticated menu, you’ll never want to leave.
Our favorite menu items include the BBQ Glazed Pork Tenderloin Panini, Rock Shrimp Hoagie, Goat Cheese Artichoke Ravioli and Steamed Penn Cove Mussels.
The Pancake House in McCall
Another local favorite in McCall is the Pancake House. This rustic style cabin serves some of the best breakfast in the city, if not the state. You can’t leave McCall without ordering one of the famous cinnamon rolls. (They are seriously the size of your head!)
Bacon in Boise
One of John Berryhill’s newer restaurants, Bacon comes to the Boise scene to serve up just that- lots of new flavors of bacon. The combinations are endless and you can get bacon in almost everything!
Bacon coffee, sure. Bacon croissants, donuts, BLTs, of course. Whatever your bacon fantasies, they can be satisfied here.
Shoshone Snack Bar
Instead of stopping in your regular fast food spot in Idaho, search out locally owned ones. The Snack Bar in Shoshone is the perfect spot for a quick burger and milkshake. They are also known for having the biggest ice creams in Idaho.

Locally owned and operated, Shoshone Snack Bar is perfect for family pit stops. Grab one of their Bruiser Burgers (three patties and three slices of cheese) or a corndog and top it off with fries or tater tots.
The Roundhouse Restaurant on Bald Mountain
The Roundhouse Restaurant on Bald Mountain is actually the only restaurant on Bald Mountain and has been serving European style food to hungry skiers and hikers since the late 1930’s.
In the summer, you can’t beat the sunny spot on their outdoor patio for gorgeous views of the mountains and town below you.
The Kneadery in Ketchum, Idaho
The Kneadery is Ketchum and Sun Valley’s local favorite breakfast spot, serving up large portions of your favorite foods. If you like sitting outside, they have a nice size covered patio in the back.
