If you’ve yearning for a European getaway, Quebec City is the perfect solution. Bursting with Old World charm and offering plenty of adventurous city escapes, Quebec City isn’t just your average Canadian metropolis.
In between the poutine snacks and the walks inside the fortified city, you’ll find surprises at every turn and learn firsthand how this 400-year-old city has managed to entice millions around the world. Ready to be on your way? Here are three ideas to help you see a little bit of everything during your stay.
Visit Quebec City
Much like Europe, the province of Quebec celebrates its past and present in as many ways as possible. Quebec City is a go-to favorite for locals and tourists, and first time visitors will find it hard to leave the area at the end of the day. As you wind through the cobblestone streets, be sure to stop in (or at least take a photo of) the Notre-Dame of Quebec Basilica and its Holy door and the Citadelle before a quick bite to eat at one of the many cafes in the area.
Call yourself a foodie for the day
With so many gorgeous cafes and tantalizing smells at every corner, you’d be crazy to try dieting while you’re in Quebec City. Just outside Old Quebec, you can get an idea of the local options and vendors from the area with a food tour within the St. Roch District. Teas, cheeses, and beers for those of drinking age are all up for grabs during this crash course. After you’ve gotten a sampling of what to expect within the city, you can be sure you’ll find the best restaurants with ease.
Take a city break
Do a quick Google search and I guarantee Montmorency Falls will top the list of must-see activities within the area. The search results are right — it’s definitely worth the short drive or bike ride from the city. Montmorency Falls are higher than Niagara. Close enough to the city but far enough away for some great outdoor adventure, Montmorency Falls is an excellent mid-day pick-me-up. The gorgeous trails, amazing views and suspension bridge that will take you directly over the falls don’t hurt either.
