We headed for a short weekend trip to explore northwest Missouri and visited three small cities with a lot of charm: Osborn, St. Joseph, and Weston. Just about 60 minutes north of Kansas City, this area gives you all the small–town vibes you crave during fall. Here is my top list of things to do in NW Missouri on a 48–hour road trip!
Shatto Milk Company If you’re in the area, you must stop by the famous Shatto Milk dairy farm. This is a frequent field trip spot for local schools and families. Make sure you grab tickets to their tour, which consists of three parts – milk sampling, a milk production line, and visiting the animals. (9406 N Highway 33, Osborn, MO)
RC’s Lunch Car After the farm, head west to St. Joseph, MO, for lunch at RC’s Lunch Car. This retro diner is known for its juicy made-to-order burgers. There is bar seating and dining tables inside, and just out front is a patio table. We ordered the Big Mic and Cubano with two Cokes. (505 Francis St, St. Joseph, MO)
Patee House Museum Next, head to the Patee House Museum. So many historical items are captured in time. In the back, they have an old carousel to ride with the family. Make sure to check out the old shops in their immersive recreated town. The National Pony Express Museum is just a block away! (1202 Penn St, St. Joseph, MO)
The Edmond 2 Stay the night in a gorgeous historic home in the heart of St. Joseph, MO. When you arrive, you unlock the home with a code, and guests have the entire second floor to themselves! It has a full kitchen and dining room, two bedrooms, one bathroom, and two sitting rooms. It’s beautifully decorated and makes for a very special night away from home. (1022 Edmond St, St. Joseph, MO)
Historic Weston Orchard and Vineyard This farm has just about everything you can think of: apple picking, apple shooting, cider, a playground, games, flower fields, and more. We had a blast hanging out in the pit of corn kernels. Make sure to try their apple donuts and spiked cider slushes! (18545 Co Rd H, Weston, MO)
Tin Kitchen Head over to the Tin Kitchen for lunch. They serve up southern cooking, offering dishes like pimento cheese and pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. This spot fills up quickly, so make sure to grab a table as soon as you arrive! We ordered the salmon salad, pulled pork sandwich and coconut cream pie for dessert. (509 Main St, Weston, MO)
Green Dirt Farm Creamery Grab an afternoon snack at the Green Dirt Farm Creamery. They have several lunch items, ice cream, and beautiful charcuterie boards. There are plenty of brightly colored picnic tables outside in the shade, plus some indoor seating. It’s a beautiful space with some incredible artisan cheese. (1099 Welt St, Weston, MO)
Weston Red Barn Farm One of my favorite farms I’ve personally been going to the longest is Weston Red Barn Farm. They have goats, ponies, chickens, turkeys, and many other types of farm animals! We loved taking a ride around the farm on their little tractor hayride and afterwards, shopping at their red barn store that offers things like jams, old-fashioned candy, soaps, teas, among other country-style items. Highly recommend getting the peach slushies! (16300 Wilkerson Rd, Weston, MO)
